My Joules

“Maybe it’s true, that I can’t live without you. And maybe two is better than one. But there’s so much time to figure out the rest of our lives and you’ve already got me coming undone.”
— Two is Better than One, BoysLikeGirls
Waking Life

“There’s an anchor that’s pulling on my heart. And it’s deep in the water but it can’t take me down. Tracing faces with fingers and were just the same as we were, just our eyes never found what I see now. That my feet are on the ground. I’m not lost, just looking for footprints. I’m taking it one step at a time. And I’m getting by and by the way, it’s you on my mind, it’s you on my mind.

And here comes the night pulling puppet strings on my heart again. Shows me all of this time I’ve been blind to this waking life. Now i see it everywhere, ‘cause I’m not lost just looking for footprints and I’m taking it one day at a time. And I’m getting by. By the way, you’re still on my mind. You’re still on my mind.”

Schuyler Fisk

I’ve gone crazy; couldn’t you tell?

I threw stones at the stars and the whole sky fell.

Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home

Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home.

Adventures

I want to go on an adventure with you. I want to pick a point on the map and then try to get there without any guidance from the GPS or the anonymous OnStar person. This destination must be atleast an hour away and with each hour increment, the “adven-ometer” will increase by two adventure units. Don’t ask me what that means. I don’t know.

I want to wander through a fall corn maze and get lost with you. I want to walk through a gorge trail and see the beauty of nature with you. I want to walk with the sand between our toes! (But let’s save this one for summer, ok? My toes are already cold just thinking about doing that in this season.)

I want to walk down main street in some sleepy little town. At night. In the snow. Let’s leave footprints behind us in crazy patterns so that people who stumble upon them will wonder what we were on.

Let’s sing to the radio at the top of our lungs. Let’s make up our own when we don’t know the words. I’ll dance in the passenger’s seat; You’ll drum on the wheel. I’ll be the co-pilot, the navigator. I might fall alseep when our comfortable silence lulls me, but I promise to drive for you when you get tired too.

Maybe things won’t go as planned. We’ll get a flat tire, or run out of gas, or spill our coffee something on our clothes. Ok, that’ll probably be me doing the spilling. But anyway, I don’t care. It’ll make the story better. It will be the detail that makes us laugh when we remember it.

So let’s go, ok? Let’s find a new place for a day and make it ours.

Nostalgia

Since I’m not going back to Caz for the first time, I thought it would be fun to look back at a list I wrote Freshmen year. I’m glad that these lists exists.

Things that make me uncomfortable with college:

Slamming doors

Being by myself

People running in the halls

A dirty room

The sound of my alarm clock

The sound of the bathroom door

The smell of cooked food in my room, including ramen noodles, bowl appetites, ravioli, easy-mac, etc

The feel of dust

An unmade bed

The smell of popcorn

The smell of the inside of the refrigerator

When I can’t sleep

The smell of sticky tack (the yellow stuff that holds up posters)

Angie’s movies that she wants to sell that just sit on the floor

Garbage piling up

When my feet and hands get cold

Being incredibly hot

When the Advil doesn’t take effect quick enough

The sound of my neighbor’s knock

When Angie screams at the slamming doors

Not getting letters and feeling forgotten

Having to wake up after staying up until two

Procrastination

Things that comfort me about college:
